- England are still without a new permanent manager
- Lee Carsley is currently the caretaker manager until the end of the year.
- These 5 options are likely to be the next to take charge of the Three Lions.

It’s been more than three months since England were in the market for a new manager after Gareth Southgate announced his departure, and they have solved the problem by appointing Under-21 head coach Lee Carsley on an interim basis.
Carsley was originally scheduled to finish his caretaker role in November and the Football Association (FA) will have to find a new manager to take over. Here are five possible options for the Three Lions boss.
1. Lee Carsley
Carsley’s chances of getting the permanent job will be heavily criticised by those in power after winning their first three games in charge before a shock 2-1 defeat at home to Greece in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday. However, he made amends in the latest match, beating Finland 3-1.
Back in Greece, the 50-year-old tried a new tactic of not using a centre-forward and using six midfielders, with Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham as a false nine. However, the result was not good and Carsley came under heavy criticism from fans. Carsley
has confirmed that he is not ready to take the job permanently and is set to return to coaching the Under-21s when he completes his duties in November. “My job has been clear from the start, I will work on the three training camps,” he said.
2. Pep Guardiola
The Manchester City boss has made it clear he intends to manage an international team in the future, saying in February: “I would like to coach a national team to play in a World Cup or a European Championship.” Guardiola’s
contract with City expires at the end of the season and there has been no announcement on his future, with the Citizens keen to extend it, but the departure of close friend Txiki Begiristain as director of football next summer has left much to be desired. However,
Guardiola may see this as the right time to leave City after a successful spell at the club. But will the FA make him an offer good enough to consider?
3. Eddie Howe
Howe is the most popular English coach on the England managerial shortlist. Receiving 19% of the fans’ vote and Newcastle have recognised that sentiment and have handed the 46-year-old a new long-term contract.
Since taking charge of Newcastle in 2021, Howe has enjoyed a fourth-place finish in the ทางเข้า ufabet Premier League and has been widely praised for his ability to make the Magpies play good football. However, the overall picture this year has been far from ideal. However, Howe
appears to remain focused on his current role at St James’ Park, saying after extending his contract in July: “As long as I am happy and feel supported and free to do the job I love at Newcastle, then I am very happy.”
4. Graham Potter
The former Chelsea and Brighton boss ticks a number of boxes the FA would like, including being English, playing attacking football and being ready to sign straight away. Potter is currently out of work having left Stamford Bridge in April 2023.
However, the 49-year-old has admitted that he would prefer a club job where he can manage every day. But in an interview, Potter has said he is open to managing at club or international level if the right offer comes along.
Speaking on the England job, Potter said: “As an Englishman. It’s a great job. Of course but I support whatever the FA decides to do and whoever the coach is. I think Gareth Southgate has done a great job and I’m sure Lee Carsley would do a great job for as long as he’s been in the position. But I’m open to that as well.”
5. Thomas Tuchel
Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are all top clubs that Tuchel has managed, and his skills, reputation and charisma are certainly suitable for the important job of England manager.
However, the problem is that Tuchel is a German who may not be as accepted by the English fans as he should be, and he often has problems with the board of directors. Which is something the FA will have to consider carefully if they choose this manager to manage the team.
